Membership FAQ

Do I have to pay to be a part of the NIU Alumni Association?

No. As a graduate of the institution, you are a valued member of our NIU alumni family and as such, you will continue to have access to some of our general benefits. You will continue to receive the Fall and Spring issues of the alumni magazine Northern Now and the monthly eNewsletter. Also you will still have access to the online alumni directory and our corporate partners program.

The NIU Alumni Membership Program, like our special events and programming, is intended as another means of reconnecting, growing, and making a difference at NIU. With your support, we can continue to offer additional services so you can grow and participate in the areas you so desire.

I already made a donation to the Annual Fund this year? Is that different than this membership fee?

Yes. Your membership dues are not a gift to the University, but the purchase of a benefits package. Membership dues go directly to the NIU Alumni Association for programming and special events.

I'm a contributing member of the Huskie Athletic Scholarship Fund? Does that automatically make me a member of the NIU Alumni Association?

No. Although the Huskie Althletic Scholarship Fund (HASF) is a supporter of the NIU Alumni Association Membership Program, your donation to the HASF goes toward supporting student athletes. Your membership dues for the NIU Alumni Association are used for alumni programming. The is unrelated to your membership in the NIU Alumni Association.
